Unless you’re going to smoke your pre-rolls right fresh from the dispensary, consider researching storage methods. If stored properly, your joints can stay good for up to a year, provided you keep them away from moisture, sunlight, and high temperatures. Whether they are cannabis/hemp joints or raw buds, all of these conditions can degrade the plant’s flavor and potency – effecting your overall experience.
How to Store Pre-Rolled Joints
Over the years, cannabis users have come with clever solutions to preserve the quality of their joints. You’ll want to store your joints away from light, in a dark place that is just cooler than room temperature. There are a plethora of options for storing cannabis and CBD pre-rolls. Here’s a look at our favorite ways to store joints.
1. Cigar Tubes
These are durable and easy to come by. They’re also easy to carry around and store. They’re not always airtight but can at least protect your pre-roll joints – or maybe a blunt or two – from damage.
Pros:
- Durable
- Easy to carry
- Easy to find
Cons:
- Not airtight
- Can’t fit many joints
2. Humidor
Borrowing from tobacco best practices, a humidor is a small box designed to keep cigars away from the air and make them easy to access. They add a certain amount of class to your surroundings and can send the message that you’re a connoisseur of good cannabis. The only consideration is that prolonged warm temperatures, such as in a well-insulated study, can cause degradation, so keeping the humidor in a cooler spot if you’re planning to keep your pre-rolls for a long time might be a better idea.
Pros:
- The product is made specifically for preserving rolled up plant material
- Best way to preserve the quality of your hemp/cannabis
- Can store many joints
Cons:
- Expensive
- Large
- Hard to find
3. Mason Jars
If sealed well, glass jars are great at keeping moisture out and scent in. They’re easy to purchase and store, and generally keep your weed from being damaged – provided the jar doesn’t break. Mason jars are traditionally transparent – and while that means you can look inside, it also means your joints can be affected by light too. One quick fix? Wrap the outside of your jar with dark tape or other covering. Mason jars also allow you to write on the top which will help you decide which to smoke first after time goes by.
Pros:
- Airtight
- Can hold many joints
Cons:
- Glass is breakable
- Clear casing
4. Plastic Bags
Sealable plastic bags like Ziploc or similar variations can be useful for keeping your pre-rolls close at hand. They can still suffer from sun damage if directly exposed for too long, and also condensation can slip in if they’re regularly opened and closed. It is not recommended to keep your pre-rolls on plastic for an extended period of time. However, bags are easy to use and always on hand – so if you need a quick fix in a pinch, plastic bags are not a bad option.
Pros:
- Easy to use
- Always on hand
Cons:
- Flimsy
- Susceptible to light
- Condensation build-up
- Buds may stick to plastic
5. Cone Tubes
Several brands make hard plastic containers in various colors and sizes. These can be useful if you worry about pre roll joints being crushed, torn or otherwise damaged. You may not be able to fit many in each tube so maybe just bring a few at a time.
Pros:
- Protective casing
- Cheap
Cons:
- Can’t fit many joints
